Seniors Learning to Gamble Online
Online gambling for money isn’t just for young people anymore! Retirees are joining the ranks of online gamblers as they learn how to use computers, according to computer experts.
Keith Cleaver, a 63-year-old computer instructor who teachers seniors, noted recently that “elderly people are beginning to understand that not knowing how to use a computer is like living in a country where you don’t understand the language.”
In addition, socializing through online chat while playing games reduces seniors’ sense of isolation, a major cause of depression among the elderly.
Meanwhile, a University of Toronto professor has reported that online keeps aging minds sharp and alert. That’s why it is never too late to learn blackjack or any of the other common online casino games that are offered.
Ronald Baecker, professor of computer science at the University of Toronto, gathered 14 researchers to form a project called TAG, Technologies for Aging Gracefully. TAG plans to test an online poker game that would allow seniors to chat and strategize with a partner online.
